Dr. Thordur Vikingur Fridgeirsson is a well regarded person in both Icelandic academia and industry. Educated as engineer he is recognized for his managerial prowess in the private sector, particularly for his adept leadership in aligning the Icelandic fisheries sector with EU regulations, overseeing significant IT infrastructure projects, and spearheading business development at Iceland's largest IT firm. Over 25 years of experience in the private sector as consultant and manager, has provided him with a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities that organizations face in today's dynamic business environment.
He currently holds the position of Associate Professor at Reykjavik University.
About me
I consider mentoring young people and creating new knowledge through research to be fundamental aspects of my role as an academic. I find it especially rewarding to integrate perspectives from the natural sciences and the social sciences to better understand the complex challenges of our time. This interdisciplinary approach has been the guiding principle of my work.
At Reykjavík University, I established the Center of Risk and Decision Analysis (CORDA) to advance research at the intersection of these disciplines. I have also authored three textbooks on management, all of which share the goal of presenting managerial concepts in an accessible and practical manner.
My teaching portfolio at Reykjavík University includes a diverse range of courses, including Project Management, Strategic Planning, and Decision Analysis. In addition, I have published several peer-reviewed articles on decision analysis and risk management, contributing to the academic literature in these fields.
Beyond academia, I take pride in being a trusted business consultant with more than 25 years of experience advising many of Iceland's leading organizations. This practical experience has enriched both my research and teaching, allowing me to bridge academic theory with real-world application.
